What’s Gamma Doodling?

Image of doodled bikeColoring books which utilize doodling patterns are now popular with many people, adults and children alike, given they assist with moving into a state of focused relaxation.

Structured use of “doodling’’:  Some forms of “abstract” structured doodling (without using someone else’s drawings), have been reported to provide a meditative state comparable to mindfulness meditation results.

“While the process may look intricate, it is a deceptively simple pathway to relaxation and inner focus.  In fact, proponents of the practice note that it has multiple benefits, including calming an anxious mind, increasing self-confidence, and cultivating moment-to-moment awareness in a similar way as mindfulness meditation” [from article by Cathy Malchiodi, PhD., in Psychology Today magazine, regarding Zentangle, a ‘doodling-like’ activity).

Reported benefits of doodling include:

  • It’s self-soothing. There’s something about the creative, repetitive nature, and particularly when you have no intended outcome, which creates measurable relaxation benefits.
  • It teaches us to celebrate making ‘mistakes’ – to see them as unintended surprises, which can mirror a life-lesson: It’s how we adapt and respond to the unexpected that really matters. There’s always learning to be integrated.
  • It’s been reported to “develop inner focus; increase dexterity; improve concentration; and reduce stress” [Suzanne McNeill, CZT]
  • It supports letting go of judgements and criticism, minimizing stress and anxiety. [Katie Butler, CZT]
  • Improved self-esteem [ Ridgewood Centre Wellness] – It just feels really good to begin with a simple squiggle, and witness something beautiful emerging, one small stroke at a time.

Gamma Doodling may be for you if:

  • You long to see visual evidence of the changes you’re creating in your life;
  • You want to move away from old anxious patterns/habits, and find a new way to relax, that’s fun and easy to do (no ‘artistic ability’ required);
  • You want to find (or deepen) your connection to your own creativity;
  • You’re looking for a fun way to clear blocks in your creativity or problem-solving;
  • You’ve tried to learn to meditate, but it just didn’t seem to work.

The process is backed by research into how the brain works, and can be re-trained easily into meditative and creative states, using train-the-brain frequencies (frequencies being the language our human brain understands).

In this group, we’ll be playing with how Gamma Doodling can effortlessly retrain the brain to help participants tap into your hidden potential… and help you learn to shift into greater creativity, calm and confidence.
